Social Responsibility

  • Community Initiatives: Our community initiatives follow a two pronged approach - Social as well as Economic welfare, to helps reduce human dependence on forest ecosystems
  • Human Resources: Nearly 90% of our workforce is from the local villages or the tribal community.
  • Contribution to the local economy:
  • Produce such as vegetables, dairy, poultry, and farm products are sourced from the local villages.
  • We encourage our visitors to purchase locally produced handicrafts and hand made paper products created by children from the "School for the Physically Challenged" children.- The proceeds go to towards charitable activitites.
  • We sponsor NGOs from the city to visit nearby villages and conduct workshops & programs for both adults & children.
  • We promote sale of locally made Jute bags to promote environmental awareness. The proceeds are ploughed back into local community welfare programs.

Environment & Wild life Protection

  • Carbon Offset Program: We at Timberlands make it our business to offset carbon footprints by reducing CO2 through regeneration of forests on arid & waste lands in the region. We promote forestation through our Timber Project growing a particular kind of tree that matures and is ready for harvesting in just 10 years. The timber when harvested produces wood for the plywood industry. This happens to be a renewable source as after harvesting, the tree grows back again, maturing to produce timber and ready for harvest in another 8 years, becoming a significant source of revenue and a renewable eco-system to reduce the impact of CO2.

  • Responsible Investments: This project serves the dual purpose of creating an investment vehicle for strong returns and at the same time helping to reduce the greenhouse effect by absorption of  CO2 from the atmosphere.

  • Alternative Power & Eco Friendly Generators: Since the local grid supports power supply for only 12 hours a day, Hurricane lamps with kerosene are used for external lighting after sunset, while alternative power from generators that comply with the most stringent requirements specified by the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MOEF) are used for the interior requirements

  • Energy conservation: CFL lighting is actively used wherever possible, to reduce the warming effect and reduce power consumption.

  • Protection to Flora & Fauna: We actively engage in preventing illegal poaching or timber felling in the nearby forests by providing support to the forest department.

  • Rainwater Harvesting: We are currently working on a rainwater harvesting program that will be implemented shortly.

  • Solid Waste Management Program: We have created compost pits that collect human waste and other solid wastes from the kitchen & restaurant and convert it to compost manure. This is then used in our timber plantations as organic manure to enrich the soil.

  • Responsible Plastic & Waste Disposal: We realize that a plastic free zone is not completely possible, However, we actively encourage minimal use of plastics in and around our estate. Waste materials arising out of our daily operations are sorted and sent to recycling areas.

  • Bio degradable bin-liners: Bin-liners used in rooms are eco-friendly made of biodegrade plastic material derived out of corn starch, vegetable oils and other biodegradable elements (EarthSoul). The material breaks down into water, CO2 and organic carbon (compost) with no toxic residuals.
